If you want to straighten your teeth without having to sacrifice your confidence wearing braces, you do have other treatment options.

Drs. Martin and Derek Farnsworth offer Invisalign®, a discrete alternative to traditional orthodontics at our Mesa, AZ, dental practice.

Learn more about the advantages of clear aligners and find out if the treatment is right for you.

What Is Invisalign?

The Invisalign orthodontic system is designed to correctly position your teeth and bite with a series of clear removable trays. You will wear each aligner for a few weeks, and then switch it out for the next in the series until treatment is complete. While the timeline varies from patient to patient, Invisalign orthodontic treatment usually lasts between 12 and 18 months.

For the right candidate, Invisalign can provide the same functional benefits as traditional braces.

The Health Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign has more than just cosmetic benefits. Teeth that are crowded or rotated are more difficult to clean than aligned teeth, increasing your risk of cavities, infections, and gum disease. Having evenly spaced teeth in proper alignment makes brushing and flossing easier.

Meanwhile, having an overbite or underbite can cause issues with your temporomandibular joints, which connect your jaw to your skull. Having an unbalanced bite can cause these joints to become inflamed, resulting in headaches, jaw pain, and other symptoms. The results of an Invisalign treatment plan can keep your smile healthy, comfortable, and attractive.

Am I a Good Candidate?

The best candidates have mild to moderate dental misalignment and otherwise healthy teeth and gums. Patients with severe cases might do better with traditional braces. Remember, Invisalign only works if you actually wear your clear aligners, so it is not recommended for forgetful individuals. However, we do offer a version of the treatment that comes with a use tracker to help with accountability.

Do I Need an Orthodontist to be Approved for Treatment?

An orthodontist is a dentist who specializes in diagnosing and creating treatment plans for malocclusion, or misaligned teeth. Although an orthodontist is often essential when it comes to complex cases, they are not necessary for you to be approved for Invisalign treatment.

The dentists at Las Sendas Dental Health in Mesa are trained in the Invisalign system and can determine if you are a candidate for clear aligners. Since these aligners are designed to straighten teeth that have light to mild misalignment, an orthodontist is not necessary to create a treatment plan.

Invisalign Treatment Steps

Take a look at what you can expect during your orthodontic treatment at our Mesa, AZ, dental practice:
With proper maintenance, the results of treatment are essentially permanent.
With proper maintenance, the results of treatment are essentially permanent.

During your free initial consultation, our dentists will assess your oral health and identify the orthodontic concerns in your smile. We will discuss your goals and treatment options to help you determine the Invisalign system right for you.

Next, we carefully plan your treatment using precise intraoral photos and digital impressions of your mouth. The scans are sent to the Invisalign lab, where technicians assess the level of misalignment and determine the estimated length of treatment. The lab will also create digital mock-ups of the results for you to preview.

If you are satisfied with the mock-up, we will order your set of custom-made aligners. Wear each aligner in the series for about two weeks for a minimum of 20 to 22 hours a day (taking them off to eat, brush, and floss). We ask that you visit our office every six weeks so we can monitor your progress and make adjustments if necessary.

Each aligner is carefully designed to put strategic pressure on your teeth. While may experience some mild discomfort with the placement of each new aligner, the majority of treatment should be relatively pain-free. Over several months, your teeth will gradually shift into the proper position until optimal alignment is achieved.

When you have completed the series, you will no longer need to wear your aligners during the day. However, we recommend wearing a retainer (or the last aligner in the set) overnight to prevent your teeth from moving. With proper maintenance, the results of treatment are essentially permanent.

I am so pleased with Las Sendas Dental Health. They are so thorough and do excellent work. The dentists are very careful and gentle. 6 months ago I had 2 fillings replaced and never felt any discomfort during the process. They did a great job of shaping the fillings to fit perfectly so I really felt no difference with my bite. Today I went in for my 6 month cleaning and the hygienist was excellent. I feel confident that I have a dentist I can rely on to do the best quality work and not feel nervous to go to. I highly recommend them.

The staff and doctors are the best at Las Sendas. They are always so kind, careful, accommodating and keep to a schedule. My hygienist was wonderful, she made me feel comfortable and I’m not a huge fan of dental cleanings. The doctor identified a couple of issues to watch and I know I’m in good hands. Thank you to the whole office for being so outstanding!
