Root Canal

When left untreated, decay can reach the pulp of your tooth, resulting in throbbing pain and other symptoms.

Root canal therapy can remove the infected pulp and save a tooth that may otherwise need to be extracted.

Our dentists can perform virtually painless root canal therapy and place a custom dental crown at our Mesa, AZ, office.

What Is Root Canal Therapy?

When a cavity is left untreated, decay can spread to the innermost portion of the tooth, known as the pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. If the pulp becomes infected or inflamed, root canal therapy (also known as a "root canal") by a dentist or endodontist is the only way to save the tooth and relieve discomfort.

If you don't schedule root canal treatment in a timely manner, the tooth will continue to weaken and the pulp can infect the tissue around the tooth roots. The preservation of your teeth is important, and root canal therapy is often the last line of defense before tooth extraction or loss. Root canal therapy will leave your tooth intact, though you may need a dental crown to completely restore the appearance and functionality of the tooth.

Some people worry that a root canal will cause them a lot of pain, but a root canal is intended to relieve discomfort once the root canal site has healed.

What an AMAZING practice. In my 48 years, I have never experienced a dental practice of this magnitude. They spent 2.5 hours thoroughly going through my first exam. They took x-rays, pictures and even a mini-catscan of my jaw. The office is beautiful and staff is very friendly. They even brought me a bottle of water at one point..... I would give this practice 10 stars if I could!!!!!

We have been going to Las Sendas Dental Health for several years and have had everything from checkups to root canals and implants. They have always explained the issue and the choices we have when something isn't right. All the work has been great and we are happy to continue going there. They know I don't like dentists and listen to what I want --changes in the cleaning, choices of pain relief, and so on. The whole staff is friendly.

Who Can Benefit From Root Canal Therapy?

You may need root canal therapy if you are experiencing:

  • Sensitivity to hot and cold
  • A severe toothache
  • Swelling in your face, neck, or gums
  • A bad taste in your mouth
  • Discoloration on a tooth or your gums

It's important to remember that this condition may not present any noticeable signs. Scheduling regular checkups with us will allow our dentists to monitor your oral health by taking X-rays.

What Can I Expect During My Procedure?

Our dental office in Mesa, AZ, has a knowledgeable staff that truly cares for each patient. We will go out of our way to ensure your comfort and answer any questions you may have about the root canal treatment.
We work hard to create an inviting, comfortable environment for patients.

One of our dentists will first apply local anesthesia to ensure you're comfortable for the duration of your root canal.

Your dentist will then use dental tools to access and clean all tissue and nerves from the pulp chamber. The root canals will then be shaped in preparation to receive a filling.

Your dentist may use a disinfecting solution to kill any remaining bacteria in the root canals.

Your canals will then be filled with a rubbery substance, and your tooth will be sealed to keep bacteria out.

If you don't need a crown, your tooth will be restored with a filling.

If your tooth needs a crown, a post will be placed in the canal to strengthen your tooth. We will place a temporary crown while your permanent crown is being crafted. Once it is ready, you will return to our office to have the crown placed on the tooth.

What Is a Dental Crown?

If your tooth needs a crown after your root canal treatment, we can create one for you. A dental crown is a cap that fits over your tooth to protect and strengthen it. Crowns are custom-made and are often virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

When cared for properly, your dental crown can last up to 15 years.

A Common Dental Treatment

You may be anxious about having a root canal, but root canal therapy from either a dentist or endodontist is common. Putting off this treatment is extremely dangerous because the infection from your tooth can make its way into your bloodstream and lead to sepsis. A root canal may be exactly what you need to save your tooth, alleviate your pain, and restore your chewing ability.

How Much Will a Root Canal Cost?

Our dentistry practice in Mesa, AZ, accepts most major dental insurance plans. Our friendly staff will even fill out all of the necessary paperwork to ensure you're receiving all the benefits you can.

If you're uninsured or have out-of-pocket costs, our office offers financing options through CareCredit® and LendingClub® so you can pay in affordable monthly installments.
